Interview Guides provide a handy outline of questions and topics to cover during an interview. When you’re hiring as a team, Interview Guides help you ensure each candidate is asked the same questions and receives the same info, no matter who they meet with.

Custom Interview Guides are available on Growth, Business, and Pro plans.

Admin permission is required to create and edit interview guides.

If you're running a more structured interview process
When you include an Interview Guide, you're taking a load off the interviewer by providing specific questions to ask all the candidates, in the ​same order.

If you're running a less structured interview process
You can use interview guides less formally, just to remind yourself of questions to ask or info to provide. So even if you prefer to allow for chatty conversation, you can have a quick reference of talking points in case you need it.

How to create an Interview Guide

  1. Click the gear icon ⚙️ in the left sidebar.

  2. Hover over Recruiting Preferences.

  3. Click Interview Guides.

  4. Click + Interview Guide to create a new guide or click the copy icon (pages) to clone an existing guide.

  5. Enter a name for your Interview Guide.

  6. Attach any files needed for reference.

  7. Click + Section to create sections to help organize your questions.

  8. Click + Item under each section to create questions or list items.

  9. Click Save Changes.

You can add as many sections and questions as you like. If you're used to the structured interviewing process, you might have sections for Situational, Behavioral, Role-Specific, Soft Skills, and General or Company Knowledge questions. A less structured interview process could include sections by trait, like Personality or Technical Aptitude.

How to edit an Interview Guide

You can make changes to Interview Guides at any time.

  1. Click the gear icon ⚙️ in the left sidebar.

  2. Hover over Recruiting Preferences.

  3. Click Interview Guides.

  4. Click the edit icon (pad and pen) to the right of the correct guide.

  5. Make changes as needed.

    • To change the order of sections, click and drag the Reorder icon that appears to the right of a section’s name.

    • To delete an item, click the X that appears to its right.

  6. Click Save Changes.

How to use Interview Guides

When added to a scheduled interview, Interview Guides are visible from the meeting invite, the Meetings tab of the candidate’s profile, and on-screen during a video interview.

To add an Interview Guide to an interview:

  1. Create an invite for a candidate interview.

  2. Click the Interview Guide dropdown and select a guide.

  3. Click Continue.

  4. Confirm or change the message and click Send Invite.

Choose an interview guide when scheduling an interview

Members of the hiring team will receive the Interview Guide in the meeting invite, so they can review the questions before the scheduled meeting, or print them from their email. The invite also includes a link to the candidate’s overview, which includes the Interview Guide, for easy reference during the interview.

Note: Interview Guides can’t be edited on a candidate’s profile or meeting invite. You can add your impressions and remarks to the candidate’s Notes, and rate the candidate on the Scorecard associated with the position.

Using Interview Guides with Scorecards

Interview guides can give you a baseline for Candidate Scorecards, so your team can save feedback that relates directly to the questions and topics covered in the interview.

Scorecards can be used to compare candidates side-by-side, so you can easily see a summary of the team’s feedback in one place.
